If you are thinking of protecting your updates this may not be such a good idea! Unless you want to lose new potential followers! The idea of twitter is to build relationships not bury them. But hey who says you can't turn twitter into what you want it to be? This is not the case with those who own businesses however. It would be in your best interest as a businesses to have your tweets unprotected unless you have a subscription based business where you sell tweets. Most people don't like dealing with rejection and the very thought of having to send you a request so they can follow you will more than likely turn them off. Why bother?
